MEET STEPHANIE SELBY
Hi! My name is Stephanie Selby and I'm a hairdresser with a journalism degree — essentially a gossip columnist with a pair of scissors in place of a pen.
I earned my journalism degree from the University of the Arts London (London College of Communication), but quickly realised I needed a creative outlet that wasn’t boxed in by traditional rules. So instead of going by the book, I decided to write my own.

I grew up loving books that made me laugh — Awful End by Philip Ardagh and George’s Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl were firm favourites. Their eccentric characters and wonderfully weird worlds inspired the creation of my own protagonists and the chaotic adventures that unfold in Witchdaft, my debut children’s novel.
My books
Since then, I’ve continued writing stories that celebrate silliness, imagination and joy. My newest book, Relatable Rhymes for Kids, is a collection of playful poems designed to make children giggle, think, and feel seen — whether they’re navigating school life, friendships, or the wonderfully strange business of growing up.
Alongside my books, I run The Story Builders Workshop, a high‑energy creative writing workshop for KS2 and early KS3 pupils. It’s all about sparking imagination, building confidence and helping children turn their ideas — whether they love football, gaming, animals or art — into stories they’re proud of.
